Created in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, the Society of Young Leading Women aims to maximize the attributes of qualifying high school girls. As a new organization, created in December of 2007, we believe that leadership cannot be innate, but rather derived from the environment in which one decides to self-place.
The founder of the Society of Young Leading Women (SYLW), Cristina A. Lara, is a Fair Lawn High School student. Active in politics and government, Lara is also the first girl in the history of her high school to join the football team. "Look around you," she says, "How many times have young women been discriminated against? We either expose too much skin, or we dress too masculine. Feminists are given the names "feminazis". Why? Young women should extricate themselves from these unfortunate double standards, ignore all the caution signs and warning signals, and do what she aims to do."
